E-S4 Sharpener : Key Features
Intelligent
Servo-Controlled Automation
The E-S4 is powered by high-performance Siemens components for reliable, repeatable results. Using advanced computer algorithms, the E-S4 first reads and then replicates the exact profile of each blade during sharpening, for optimal accuracy and consistency.
Touch-Screen
Display
The Siemens touch screen offers a highly intuitive, user-friendly interface allowing for multiple options, including hockey, goalie, figure skate, and X-grind settings as well as many more customized features, such as number of passes, and heel and toe modification functions.
CBN-Coated
Steel Alloy Wheels
Elite’s wheels are made of advanced steel alloy with a CBN crystal coating, maintaining a precise radius of hollow and lasting far longer than resin wheels (10,000 passes on average). Each wheel is factory-formed to hollows from ¼” to 1 7/8”, so there is no need to “dress” the wheel. Simply select the desired radius and installation is quick and easy. All machines also include Radio Frequency ID to track wheel usage and optimize performance.
Self-Centering
Clamps
Even a few thousandths of an inch difference in edge height can result in a difference that you can feel on the ice. The E-S4’s self-centering clamp system means the exact center of the blade meets the exact apex of the grinding wheel every time, so that the blade is in the optimal position regardless of variations in blade width. This ensures symmetrical edges every time you sharpen.
Integrated
Cyclonic Vacuum System
The E-S4 is a clean system compared to traditional hand sharpeners. Our integrated vacuum system removes 98% of the steel blade particles, keeping your workspace clean and safe.
Built-in
Connectivity Module
Built in connectivity allows Elite to connect with you for remote software updates and support, wherever you are.
Benefits of the Elite E-S4
Consistent
Siemens automation and computerized profile preservation deliver the same pro-level edges every time, reducing variability between operators and ensuring players can trust their blades game after game.
Accurate
Factory formed steel wheels and self-centering clamps guarantee a precise Radius of Hollow as well as symmetrical edges, so every sharpening maximizes precision and consistency.
Fast and Efficient
Sharpens two blades simultaneously in about two minutes, freeing staff to handle other tasks and dramatically increasing throughput in high-volume environments.
Clean and Safe
An integrated vacuum removes 98% of steel particles for a healthier workspace, while built-in safety features ensure worry-free operation for staff.
Profile Preservation
Unlike traditional hand sharpening and home sharpening kits on the market today, Elite E-S4’s advanced technology is able to perfectly maintain the shape of the blade profile from one sharpening to the next, for the life of the blade.
The E-S4 uses Siemens controllers and precision digital drives to automatically control the speed and pressure of the sharpening pass from toe to heel. Prior to sharpening, the E-S4 first scans the profile of the blade. Once the sharpening begins, the system detects changes in blade angle and position at every millimeter and adjusts speed and pressure to remove exactly the same amount of material along the length of the blade. In real time, the E-S4 uses sophisticated algorithms to accurately reproduce the existing blade profile throughout the sharpening process.
This is something that simply cannot be replicated by other systems. Inevitably hand sharpening and home sharpeners which apply constant pressure will inevitably eat away more steel at the heel and toe.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the E-S4 Sharpener different from traditional sharpeners?
For equipment managers and retailers, the E-S4 saves time, reduces errors, and eliminates the inconsistencies that come with manual sharpening. For players, it means they can trust their edges every time they step on the ice.
How long does it take to sharpen a pair of skates with the E-S4?
It depends on the condition of the blade but on average it takes two minutes or less to sharpen a pair of blades, roughly twice as fast as on a hand sharpener. And the system is hands free, which saves even more time. In fact, one operator can easily run two machines at the same time.
Do I need to dress the sharpening wheel?
No. The CBN-coated steel wheels on the E-S4 never need dressing and retain their shape, ensuring consistent hollows over time. The E-S4 comes with a set of wheels for each radius of hollow — ranging from ¼” to 1 ⅞”.
What makes Elite’s wheels different?
Elite’s sharpening wheels are built from advanced steel alloy and coated with CBN crystals, machined to aeronautic standards for the most precise radius of hollow. Unlike resin-stone wheels, which break down with every pass (those sparks are actually burning fragments of resin), Elite wheels maintain RoH accuracy, stability, and cutting power for their entire lifespan. Harder than the steel blades they sharpen, they never degrade, never need dressing, and deliver consistent, pro-level results every time. Each wheel is factory-formed to radiuses from ¼″ to 1 ⅞”, and installation takes just seconds.
Does the E-S4 affect the blade profile?
Not at all. The E-S4 is the first sharpener that was engineered specifically to perfectly preserve the blade profile from heel to toe, delivering unmatched consistency on the ice.
How many passes are required for a basic sharpening on the E-S4?
A basic sharpening on the E-S4 is usually 3-4 passes in standard or premium mode, depending on the quality of the steel blade you are sharpening.
How often do you need to replace the wheels?
Elite’s aeronautic grade steel wheels last for up to 10,000 sharpening passes. Our Radio Frequency ID wheels allow for accurate monitoring so that you know when the wheels are getting to the end of their useful life.
What is the finish like after sharpening on the E-S4?
The final pass on the Elite sharpener is always a finishing pass which leaves a perfectly smooth surface finish that rivals any hand sharpening. Just ask the pros.
Do I need to stone the blades after sharpening?
Yes all sharpening systems create a burr which must be stoned/honed properly at the end of the sharpening process to give that perfect finish. The good news is it’s easy to do with the right tools.
Can the E-S4 sharpen figure skates?
Yes there is a figure skate mode programmed into the E-S4 and many retailers use the E-S4 it to sharpen for the figure skating community.
Do I need to take the blade out of the blade holder to sharpen on the E-S4?
You can keep the blades in the skates or use our universal blade holders to mount just the blades in the machine. The E-S4 does both.
Can I profile on the E-S4?
The E-S4 will preserve the profile shape of your blade but it is not a profiler. It creates the radius of hollow and two symmetrical edges. The Elite E-P3 profiler is the machine that creates the profile, which is the shape of the blade from heel to toe.
Is the E-S4 sharpening process clean?
Yes. First, the only residue created is a small amount of steel dust from the blades. There is no burnt wheel residue common with hand sharpening systems. And Elite’s integrated vacuum system removes 98% of the steel dust, keeping your workspace safe and clean.
